Things just got harder for McNerney

Incumbent Jerry McNerney‘s (D) campaign for re-election to the House just got a lot harder. The National Republican Congressional Committee (the NRCC, i.e., the House Republican campaign committee) just named Ricky Gill one of its Young Guns (in this case literal young–Gill will meet the age requirement for serving in Congress later this month) for 2012.

Gill is one of twelve such candidates in this election cycle, and one of three in California–the other two are David Valadao (CA-21) and Tony Strickland (CA-26). As such, the NRCC will be pumping a bunch of money into the campaign on Gill’s behalf.

Whether it makes a difference in a Democratic-leaning district has yet to be seen.
