Pacific Political Scientists and the California Budget Crisis

No, we didn’t start the fire, but we do offer some insight about the current mess in the California budget.
The current issue of the California Journal of Politics and Policy, a special issue focusing on California’s state budget crisis, has two pieces written by Pacific political scientists. Former State Senator and occasional department instructor Patrick Johnston contributes a piece entitled “California’s Sad Budget Saga Has Many Authors.” Department professor Robert R. Benedetti adds an article called “The Governor Should Negotiate with the Cities.”

These two articles are greatly helpful in understanding how California comes to find itself in such desperate budgetary straits and how the state might work its way out.
