No debate about Pacific’s prowess
University of the Pacific’s impressive debate team has gone global.
Pacific’s four-student debate team went to Xi’an, China, from Jan. 3 to 11 to compete against teams from 10 nations.
Pacific finished first, earning the university lofty status as the world’s top collegiate debate team.
The four members of the tournament team were senior Political Science major Jacki Evans, Branigan Robertson, Jeffrey Toney and Kathleen Bruce.
Pacific’s forensic foursome – arguing in English – competed in an event focused on international trade and the environment.
Pacific’s speech-and-debate program long has been one of the strongest in the nation.
Naturally, it’s never gotten the same recognition as the men’s basketball and women’s volleyball teams.
A little bit more acknowledgment for this accomplishment would be nice, though.
